Today was a beautiful Spring day in Colorado. My husband, son
and I went into the mountains for some hiking and to visit some
friends. After a long day in the mountains and a very active
weekend we wanted the best green chili we knew of.
The place of the incident was a bar right off I-70 before Idaho
Springs that is known for its homemade chili. We had been
there once before quite some time ago. I remembered the
outstanding green chili, but something in the back of my head said
that we had decided to never go here again.
We got there and we were all quite hungry. We sat down and
the wait began. Soon I remembered why something in the back of
my head told me not to come here again. It was the slower than
slow service. A family sitting adjacent to us was
leaving. The wife leans over to me and says, "You may have to go
ask them for help." What a bad sign!
It appeared the staff was drinking on the job. A man who
was clearing tables saw us looking for help, but never told anyone
we needed help.
Now, I might add the place was not busy. There were at
least four staff people we saw working the small bar.
After waiting more than 10 minutes, we decided to leave. We got
up and started walking out. No one ever seemed concerned at all. It
is like we were completely invisible.
Well, unfortunately because of the location, this bar will
probably always have enough newcomers to stay in
business. But, hopefully someday they will get a clue about
serving customers.
Customer Service Tips:
- Acknowledge your customers.
- Provide timely service.
- Train your staff to help out - even if it is not their
job. The man clearing the tables was clueless.
